David Legan is the CEO and founder of CheckOnMe, a project born from deeply personal experiences. A retired businessman, David’s inspiration for creating this service comes from the haunting memory of a close friend who died alone in his apartment and wasn’t discovered until neighbors reported a foul odor. This tragedy stayed with David for years, and when his wife developed dementia, he faced the harsh reality of not knowing what would happen to her if something were to happen to him. As he reflected on how we track animals, shipments, and even wildlife in national parks, he questioned why technology couldn’t be used to protect our loved ones without violating their privacy. Driven by the belief that no one should die unnoticed, David founded CheckOnMe to provide a simple, effective way to monitor the safety of those who live alone or are at risk, using technology to send alerts when something is wrong.
