FAQ

This app uses your phone’s sensors to detect movement. If the phone is NOT moved within a certain time period that the user selects, the phone assumes that the user might need help and notifies up to three “emergency contacts” by text message, which includes the location of the phone.
If the phone is moved suddenly, such as in a fall or car accident, the phone sends those same messages immediately.

A message is sent to each of the user’s emergency contacts IF the user does not respond to a ringtone phone call. (To prevent false alarms, the user’s phone will first be CALLED, and messages will be sent if that call is not answered.) The message will read something similar to this: “CHECK ON ME! I might be in trouble. My phone is located here: 51.500776, -0.124636.
Smartphones collect mobile location data in the form of latitude-longitude coordinate pairs. These pairs of numbers represent every point on earth with a very high degree of accuracy. The format of one of these pairs looks like: 51.500776, -0.124636.

This part is simple. On-screen instructions provide a way to add the name and cell phone numbers of the contacts. We strongly suggest each contact be advised of their status as an emergency contact.

Alert times may be set at pre-assigned periods which vary from one-half hour to 48 hours. A hiker or long-distance runner might set a very short period of time because a phone sitting in their pocket is constantly moving, and even a short time of immobility might be a cause for concern. A homebound user who uses their phone only sparingly might choose a much longer alert time – twelve hours, for example.
Sensitivity settings are set to only respond to violent events. If the phone is dropped from a significant height or experiences a significant change in G-forces, such as during an auto accident or fall, it will alert.

There is no difference in how they work. Free plans are provided to certain users by their Health Care Providers – generally to aged or infirm patients, usually those living alone.

The location sensors on the user’s phone keep track of where the phone is located. Transmitting that information is a typical function of most smartphone
